2021, Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious DiseaseOccurrence, effects and behaviour of the antibiotic lincomycin in the agricultural and aquatic environment – A review
2021, Science of the Total EnvironmentCitation Excerpt :At least seventeen LIN-resistant genes (LRGs) are known, whose resistant effect is based on three different mechanisms of action: 23S rRNA methylases, O-nucleotidyltransferases, and lincomycin export mediated by efflux (Barrios et al., 2020; Chen et al., 2010; Li et al., 2013). Although there are only a few studies that searched for LIN resistance in animal husbandry environment (Li et al., 2013), LRGs were detected consistently in liquid manure and waste treatment systems of animal farms (Barrios et al., 2020; Chen et al., 2010; Li et al., 2013; Mendes et al., 2011; Wang et al., 2020; Zhu et al., 2013). Thus, manure application not only contributes to the distribution of LIN in the environment, but also to the distribution of LRGs.
Mobile lincosamide resistance genes in staphylococci
2018, PlasmidCitation Excerpt :Mendez and co-workers identified a vga(A) gene on the ca. 24-kb plasmid p6847J from three MRSA ST398 recovered from swine and a swine caretaker in the United States. The vga(A) gene was found in close proximity to three mob genes (mobA, mobB, mobC) and a rlx gene (Mendes et al., 2011). The 28743-bp plasmid pSWS47 from a feline S. epidermidis ST5 isolate also harbored the vga(A) gene together with the tetracycline resistance genes tet(L) and tet(M), the trimethoprim resistance gene dfrK and a truncated blaZ β-lactamase gene (Weiß et al., 2014).
Identification of novel vga(A)-carrying plasmids and a Tn5406-like transposon in meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis of human and animal origin
2012, International Journal of Antimicrobial AgentsCitation Excerpt :In recent years, novel resistance genes such as vga(C), vga(E) and dfrK have been identified in strains belonging to this clonal complex [5,19,21], which acts as a reservoir of these genes. Thus, MRSA-ST398 strains harbouring the genes vga(A), vga(C) and vga(E) have been detected [5,9–11]. In fact, the vga(C) and vga(E) genes were first described in this clonal lineage [5,9].
