2022, Journal of Microbiology, Immunology and InfectionCitation Excerpt :One study demonstrated that only 2.2% of the meropenem-resistant A. baumannii isolates were MHT positive.23 In contrast, another study found MHT being positive for 95% Acinetobacter isolates with imipenem hydrolyzing ability.24 A recent study also shows that MHT could be used to detect OXA-48 and New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) in clinical gram-negative bacilli, including Klebsiella pneumoniae, A. baumannii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.25

2017, Enzyme and Microbial TechnologyCitation Excerpt :Owing to their rather low hydrolytic activity, strains with OXA-family carbapenemase require a longer incubation time to hydrolyze carbapenem antibiotics than do other strains [26]. In particular, OXA-23 and ISAba1-OXA-51 have been reported to require more than 4 h for the carbapenemase assay with ertapenem at a concentration of 500 μg/ml by conventional MALDI-TOF MS [26]. In the quantitative carbapenem-susceptibility test using conventional MALDI-TOF MS, bacterial strains with a lower resistance level were identified more frequently than when using LDI-MS and conventional PCR, MIC, and MHT [Fig. 7(b)].
Emerging and Future Applications of Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight (MALDI-TOF) Mass Spectrometry in the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory: A Report of the Association for Molecular Pathology
2016, Journal of Molecular DiagnosticsCitation Excerpt :This assay is not yet FDA approved and is unavailable for clinical testing. MALDI-TOF MS has been applied for the detection of a wide variety of β-lactamases, including Klebsiella pneumonia carbapenemase (KPC), New Delhi Metallo-β lactamase-1, imipenemase, Verona integron-encoded metallo-β-lactamase, Seoul imipenemase, oxacillinases, extended spectrum β-lactamases, and class C cephalosporinase (eg, AmpC) enzymes.62–65 Studies have primarily focused on members of the Enterobacteriaceae, but have also assessed Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii.
